I found it by accident when browsing the adaptations from classic novels released decades ago by Classics Illustrated and by Saddleback, and learnt that a Spanish editorial had also published their separate and much shorter series of classics decades ago, now sadly all out of print and hard to get if you don't have contacts in Spain. And I would say that, although in my opinion Thomas' is by far my favourite as well as the best adaptation, I found this one was close in quality and faithfulness to the book original.
Only that it's in black and white, and I'd have preferred it to be coloured. Not that the art is any less good by not being brightly coloured, mind you, because it's beautiful in its inky style and the use of chiaroscuro by the artist.
Being from the s, it shows influences from the time period as well, such as in Cora and Alice looking like Hollywood costume drama stars, how much more formal and stiff the poses and dialogue are as opposed to the more natural ones by Thomas, etc. But as I was saying, it's quite faithful to the book, and Hawkeye does look like a man in his forties as he's supposed to be, instead of the handsome something that he's made to be thanks to the more recent film adaptations.
And one detail that no other adaptation does is that Salinas chose to include "inner thoughts" dialogue bubbles, showing what the characters were thinking at some points, not that it helps much because that could've been omitted with no damage to the story.
