The main plot of the ordinary story is basically the at the beginning and at the end. But the author changed the names of the heroes an added a new plot between the beginning and end. For example there were some adventures that i did not even known. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. Want to Read saving…. Want to Read Currently Reading Read. Other editions. If you think the title sounds vaguely familiar you are absolutely right. As such it fits exactly into a modern term "retelling". Dorothy I mean Ellie this is how she called this time ended up in magical land killing a wicked witch at the same time. To get back to Kansas she had to travel a yellow brick road to Emerald City to ask the all-powerful wizard for help, but only if she find three other beings desperately wishing for something.
At this point I will shut up as I would repeat everything from Baum's book. As to additions: here before meeting the Cowardly Lion Ellie gets kidnapped by a cannibal ogre and had to be rescued. If you ignore additions like this, up to the point where The Wizard was blown away in an air balloon before Ellie was able to get onboard the stories are very similar. From this point they became very different, but the ending is still the same. Because I read this version first I only got to read the original during well in my adult years I like it more.
This book treats its readers as equals without trying to adjust to the supposed young age of its readers. This means it is more interesting for adults. Here I am not trying to say the original is bad, mind you. The next book of the series, Urfin Jus and his Wooden Soldiers is excellent and from this point the series had nothing in common with any of the plots of any Oz books.
If you manage to get your hands on it, read it. Even if you miss this one you will not be lost because of its similarities with the famous children classic. Still unless you can quote The Wonderful Wizard of Oz from memory starting at any place and from back to front, this one might be worth reading.

The Wizard of Oz bootleg as we fondly call it.

A wonderful story full of divine magic, miracles and wizards. Even better than the original story ;. That was great! It was really fun to see how it differed from the American version of "The Wizard of Oz". I grew up on both the English and Russian versions of Wizard of Oz — my grandpa read me this one first, and then I dove headfirst into all things Oz in both languages.
Revisiting it at the tail end of a year spent rereading Oz books was a fascinating endeavor, especially in seeing how the two compare. The peril in this book is much realer than in its American version: the addition of the cannibal, for instance, made parts of it much scarier than they would be otherwise.
Das reine Adverbien-Bombardement. Und die Freude zu sehen, wie der Nachwuchs gefesselt ist. One of the favorite books from my childhood! Book teaches important things in life without pressure.
And it's easy to read in adult age. Re-reading it with my 5 years old daughter gave me much pleasure. If it were an original story I would have been more impressed. This is the first "long" book I've read to my 1-year-old son.
He didn't understand much so I expect to re-read it at some point this or next year. I really enjoy reading it. I started reading this book out of curiosity. I knew the main story, but i had never would imagine that there was such a cool story. I had a good and funny time reading this book even thought this is a childish book If anyone want to read this book I started reading this book out of curiosity.
I had a good and funny time reading this book even thought this is a childish book If anyone want to read this book to their children or even to have just have good time or even bored and don't know what to read you should read this book. It is worth!!!! The book is easy to understand and there is lost that we can learn from the heroes.
I gave it 4 starts because i didn't like the parting part. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Readers also enjoyed. About Alexander Volkov. Alexander Volkov.
