Dec 11, Alex rated it liked it Shelves: amherst-fall Fascinating material; the book, unfortunately, is too terse and inconsistent it how it presents definitions and examples of which there are too few.
The exercises redeem it somewhat. Also: needing a new symbol, Enderton differentiates between an asterisk and a "capital asterisk" which are hardly distinguishable. What the hell? The material covers many important results from logic, pretty much from scratch. However, I think it'd be difficult to use without accompanying lectures. Some proofs are not fully spelled out, and, as several other reviewers noted, the writing style is pretty terse.
Jan 27, Lulu marked it as to-read Shelves: john-baez-physics Set theory and logic. Dec 17, Daniel rated it liked it. Adequate but not great. I read it as a course text and it was fine in that context but I wouldn't recommend it by itself. Apr 13, DJ added it. Poor textbook is doomed to be the forgotten stepchild of this course. Jul 08, John Chilton rated it liked it. I love terse books, but even for me this book is too terse. It could really benefit from additional samples and explanations.
